FAQ

There is an official documentation for GitLab documentation.

Q) How do I create a new group under KIT/ ?

➥ Please find the instruction for creating a group: https://docs.gitlab.kit.edu/de/Organisation/#gruppen-anlegen
and submit the form visiting this page: https://docs.gitlab.kit.edu/group/

Q) Can I change the primary email address in my GitLab account?

➥ You should NOT change your primary email address in your account profile at gitlab.kit.edu. If you do this, you won't be able to log in to GitLab under your previous account the next time you log in, because Gitlab checks your primary email address every time you log in.

Q) I have got "Error 500"?

➥ This error display still occurs sporadically. And it can be fixed with a reload (button "Reload page" or the key combination Str+R). We are working with GitLab to fix it. If this error is displayed frequently, we would be happy to receive a short email to git@scc.kit.edu with the request ID displayed under the error message.

Q) How many projects can be created for each KIT-GitLab account?

➥ Each KIT account (via OIDC) can create 50 projects within GitLab.

Q) How much quota will be allowed in my project?

➥ 10 GB disk space is available for each project in the personal namespace(account). If you need a more space, please contact git@git.scc.kit.edu directly.

Q) How many group projects inside institute-group (OUs) can be created?

➥ In the institute level's sub-group (OUs), any number of projects can be created. There is no restriction for the available number of projects.

Q) Is it possible to change username?

➥ Users can change their displayed username by themselves via "Profile → Account". Please be aware of the fact that by changing the username, the namespace will automatically be altered as well. As a consequence, all links to already existing projects will be altered, too.

Q) How to enable the Two Factor Authentication?

➥ You should use one of following mobile or web application for two-factor authentication.
Duo Mobile, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator, Authy, 2FA Authenticator
After installing mobile application, go to "Profile → Account" and activate Two-factor authentication

Q) Should I create a shared or joining project with another KIT working group?

➥ When you want a group to have access to your project, you can invite a group to the project. The group’s members get access to the project, which becomes a shared project.

Q) I would publish my gitlab project using GitLab pages?

➥ There are no plan to offer GitLab Pages in KIT. It requires a completely new domain for the GitLab Pages. The website management for kit.edu (https://www.scc.kit.edu/dienste/wcm.php) is officially available to put your website in online. In addition, one can also supply a virtual web server (https://www.scc.kit.edu/dienste/webserver.php) with web-contents from a GitLab repository via a CI/CD pipeline. The VMWare team can support to provide further for this subject.
