Deprovisioning
What is deprovisioning at GitLab?
Deprovisioning is the removal of users and projects that are no longer actively used at GitLab.

User restriction
User accounts will be blocked after a period of inactivity.

Days of inactivity before deactivation: 12 months

A blocked user can also activate their account themselves by logging in to GitLab at KIT again only via the web interface.

Other users can still see this blocked user's posts and contributions in the project or group.

The user will receive a warning email about deactivation and planned deletion of the account after a further waiting period of another 3 months.
User deletion
Users whose account is already deactivated will be deleted after a period of deactivation.

If the user is no longer active in the next 3 months, the account in GitLab will be deleted

Delete a user and his/her contribution in the project and also groups of which he/she is the only group owner.

When deleting users, all contributions e.g., merge requests, issues, wikis in the project will be assigned to the “ghost user”.
Deprovisioning projects
Inactive projects will be automatically deleted.

How to determine when a project was last active : the date of activitiy on the project by any members of project (owener, maintainers, developers and guests)

A warning email will be sent to maintainers after the project is inactiv for 12 months

After waiting further 3 months, the project is scheduled for deletion, i.e. 15 months later the project repository will be deleted completely.
